Octobers

“Oh, Marilla,” she exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it? Look at these maple branches. Don’t they give you a thrill—several thrills? I’m going to decorate my room with them.”
Anne of Green Gables, chapter 16

"I'm glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."
I've seen this quote so often, it's become cliché, but I feel the sentiment. I am enjoying this October.

Sunrise after harvest.

A friend from church gave us a box full of apples and her recipe for freezing apple pie filling. So I put the kids to work helping me put those up. We now have 5 full bags of sliced apples.

Jonathan wanted to make a pumpkin pie. I think he gets inspired by stocking all those groceries at his job. Thanksgiving will lead right into Lanaya Elizabeth's wedding this year, and we do not plan to have a full Thanksgiving meal. So we can enjoy our pumpkin pie now!

Phoebe's completed cornhusk couple.

A college friend from Florida came to visit friends and family in MO, and she got Twila and I together to sign her copy of our book that she had bought. She bought a hardcopy one, which I had not yet seen.

So while we're on news of the Charlotte Mason book: Hard copies now available! And also, an interview episode with Twila and I is up at Humility and Doxology podcast. This was the last interview we did, and I felt the most comfortable during this one.

We met for a couple hours at a coffee shop, and it was definitely not enough time. We hadn't seen Vanessa in over 20 years. Thanks for making it happen, Vanessa!

We also had Cody visit us this past weekend. Phillip invited other college friends over for a meal, so we had some good entertainment (which I enjoyed from the kitchen) and conversation.

Our Abigail had two more kittens. She had them in the shed on the footer of the riding lawn mower. Then she moved them to the grass under a red tractor in our yard. And then she moved them to the forest of marigolds in our front yard. And then she moved them under the house.

Speaking of a red tractor in our backyard. We are having our cellar and sidewalks taken out. Which makes for interesting landscape currently. It's been fun to watch.

The farmers have been here harvesting the corn all around us and filling up the bins behind our house. It's over so quickly! A few long days of hard driving and then they're done.
